Food Safety

Safe food is everyone's concern and here at Long Wind Farm we take food safety very seriously.  As a certified organic farm we have always taken great care to ensure that our tomatoes are handled in a food-safe manner and our organic practices lend themselves to an overall safer product for the consumer.

However, consumers have genuine and justifiable concerns about the food they and their families eat given numerous outbreaks of food-borne illnesses in recent years.

We have been listening, and more and more distributors, supermarket chains, and local stores are paying attention too.  Many are now asking that farms undergo voluntary auditing to certify that they comply with the USDA Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) & Good Handling Practices (GHP).  This will soon become a requirement and rightly so.

Long Wind Farm adopted a comprehensive food safety program in back in 2010 and we get audited to certify that we are meeting the USDA's GAP & GHP requirements. Click here to view our current USDA Food Safety certificate.  You may also view our listing on the USDA's website here.

It's really important to all of us here at Long Wind Farm that our customers not only enjoy the flavor of our delicious organic tomatoes, but that they can eat them knowing that we have gone to great lengths to assure that they are handled with food safety in mind.
